Three Things for Thursday

  • From Westminster Abbey, “The Queen’s Window by David Hockney is Revealed” brings us a glimpse of the design, installation, and intention behind this vibrant and unexpectedly modern window. The Queen’s Window is described as a “vividly coloured country scene reflecting The Queen’s deep affection and connection to the countryside.” This new window, formerly plain glass, was designed by David Hockney using an iPad.
  • Mary Oliver’s instructions from her poem “Sometimes” [Red Bird, Beacon Press, 2007]:

    Instructions for living a life:
    Pay attention
    Be astonished.
    Tell about it.

  • The lighthearted “After Hours” short video is sure to bring a smile. According to Blue Zoo, “During the summer of 2018, five interns joined Blue Zoo to learn about working in a professional studio environment. Within that time they were challenged to make an animated short film in just a few weeks, from concept to final render.”

Westminister Abby is a must see when traveling to London. Take in an organ concert, vespers, or evensong. Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, you’ll be swept away by the grandeur and beauty of this magnificent Abby. And now a chance to see this incredible window by David Hockney.

Great ideas on how to experience Westminster. I would love to see how David Hockney’s creation provides a contrast to the more traditional stained glass work.

Love the After Hours video. I truly admire people who can find beauty in anyone and everyone and be loving and inclusive. That is what having a family is like, even a family not related by blood but by love. It is unconditional love.
